A band like Ajam Quartet simply must have to exist in such a diverse city like Berlin. In line with the motto "our differences are our strength" four musicians from four different countries founded their ensemble. Arabic oud, classical violin, funky double bass and various percussion instruments make up the sound of the ensemble and jazzed up versions of tunes from "Alf Layla wa Layla" to "Ave Maria" are part of their repertoire.
The music of Ajam Quartet is just as colorful as the city of Berlin itself. Traditional melodies from the Middle East get enhanced with brilliant improvisations, well-known classical European pieces appear in surprisingly new shape, and exploratory original compositions crown their dazzling program.
